SAP Basis is responsible for the smooth operation of the SAP Basis system. The SAP Basis system is like an operating system for R/3 as well as S/4. Every operating system, such as Windows, provides an environment in which programs developed for that environment can run, such as MS Office. Likewise, the SAP Basis system provides an environment in which SAP programs can run. In any R/3 or S/4 system, there is a database server, such as HANA, where the database resides. It provides the necessary data to all other applications. The data here is not only data tables, but also applications, system control tables and user data.

If the additional memory in the Advanced Storage Area is still not sufficient for the user context, the optional second role area can be used. The size of the second roll range is determined by the difference between the parameters ztta/roll_first and ztta/roll_area. Rolling range has been eliminated in kernel release 7.4, so these parameters are obsolete from then on. Instead, the user context is now stored directly in the Advanced Memory.

SAP Basis ensures smooth operation of the SAP Basis system. The SAP Basis system is a kind of operating system of the R/3 system or SAP ERP. It includes the three layers database, application and presentation. In addition, Basis includes many SAP middleware programs and administration tools. With Basis SAP applications can be used compatible and independent of operating system and database and can be enriched with the necessary data.

The SAP Basis Plug-In is backward compatible and follows the release and maintenance strategy of the SAP R/3 Plug-In. SAP ships it together with the SAP R/3 Plug-In.

Use "Shortcut for SAP Systems" to accomplish many tasks in the SAP basis more easily and quickly.

Typically, the following two SAP access permissions are enabled to protect print jobs: S_SPO_DEV (spooler device permissions) S_SPO_ACT (spooler actions).
